Actress: Noomi Rapace

January 14, 2012

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace plays Lisbeth Salander in the film adaption of the Millenium book series — The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009), and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (2009). It seems like the right time to mention her role right now, as Rooney Mara portrayed this character in the Hollywood version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) recently. Although I haven’t seen the English version with Daniel Craig , I’m sure it won’t make as big as impact for those of us who have already witnessed the Swedish Lisbeth co-starring Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist.

Speaking of this actress, I just saw Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows (2011) a few days ago and I didn’t realize that Noomi Rapace played the Gypsy fortune-teller Madam Simza Heron in the film. Doh! The film was a joy to watch, especially because it was released just a few weeks before Season 2 of the British TV series Sherlock returned on New Years Day (Jan 1, 2012)! Here is a photo of Noomi Rapace in Sherlock to show the transformation from Lisbeth to Simza. Only goes to show how much impact one’s dress (and accessories!) has on identity [wow, what an anthropologically imbued line – courtesy of my interest in Dress & Identity :D].
