Character Profile: L

January 7, 2012

Japanese actor Kenichi Matsuyama plays L in the manga based Death Note films – Death Note (2006), Death Note: The Last Name (2006), and L: Change the World (2008) which is a spin-off to the previous two films. What defines L and gives him such a unique character is his body language and lifestyle. With the heavy make-up, hunchback posture, shifty eyes, monotonous speech pattern, spindly (and spidery) body movements, and undying penchant for sweets, chocolates and pastries, Kenichi Matsuyama’s portrayal of L marks an impressive feat in acting skills, leaving a huge impression on the audience!

I watched the Death Note trilogy quite a while ago, but was reminded of the character L recently when I saw an interview with the actor in an airline’s entertainment magazine and watched his latest film Usagi Drop (2011) which was a sweet and beautiful treat. He also plays the lead male role in the movie adaptation of Haruki Murakami‘s novel Norwegian Wood (2010). Hoping to see that soon!
